3-D 'Lion King' reigns at U.S. movie box office

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A 3-D release of animated classic “The Lion King” ruled the domestic weekend box office by trouncing virus thriller “Contagion” and three newcomers, according to studio estimates compiled by Reuters on Sunday.

“The Lion King 3-D” sold a stronger-than-expected $29.3 million over three days at U.S. and Canadian theaters. Originally released in 1994, the Walt Disney Co film is one of the top-grossing animated movies of all time.

Thriller “Contagion,” about the race to stop a deadly virus as it circles the globe, finished second with $14.5 million. Third place went to action flick “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling, with $11 million.

Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, released “Contagion.” “Drive” was released by FilmDistrict.

The Lion King 3D hits theaters on September 16th, 2011.

Cast: Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Moira Kelly

Still the mightiest animated feature of them all and the undisputed "king" of the box office, Walt Disney Pictures' "The Lion King" roars to life as never before with its dazzling Large Format Cinema debut. Reformatted specifically for the Giant Screen from the film's original digital elements, this special limited engagement in IMAX Theatres and other Large Format cinemas offers moviegoers a chance to experience one of the greatest animated adventures of all time on the most majestic canvas imaginable. The original filmmaking trio - producer Don Hahn and directors Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff - joined forces with a team of top artists and technicians to oversee the creation of this new Large Format version that boasts added detail, richer colors, a newly remixed soundtrack, and a theatrical experience uniquely suited to capture the scope and beauty of its African settings.

With its compelling story, breathtaking animation, colorful characters, Oscar-winning music (songs by Elton John and Tim Rice; score by Hans Zimmer), the film follows the adventures of a young lion cub named Simba, who just can't wait to be king. The sudden death of his father, Mufasa, and the treacherous actions of his Uncle Scar lead Simba into exile and ultimately on a hero's journey of self discovery. Adopting the "hakuna matata" philosophy of his comical jungle guardians - a warthog named Pumbaa and a meerkat named Timon - Simba grows to maturity, but eventually comes to terms with his destiny and returns home to Pride Rock to help put things right.

Toyota Introduces New Prius Family with a Bizarre

Coinciding with the announcement on pricing for the new 2012 Prius Plug-in Hybrid that will launch next spring and the new Prius V minivan that is set to go on sale this October, Toyota has unleashed a new campaign to promote the growing family of Prius models.

The new TV spot is named "People Person" and it was created by advertising agency, Saatchi & Saatchi.

The ad follows a dozen or so people linked together to form a gigantic and somewhat creepy looking man brushing his teeth and eating breakfast while reading the paper. The giant person then exits the house and sees four Prius models, including the regular Prius, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, the Prius V and the forthcoming compact Prius in concept form, parked on his driveway.

Then all of a sudden, the people forming the giant begin to leave the formation and drop down to enter the cars.

You can watch the commercial for yourself in the video below.

In Car Video Footage of a Very Bizarre Incident - Watch recorded vehicle crash

It’s a crazy, crazy world we live in. Don't believe us? Just take a look at this incident that took place somewhere in Asia, possibly in China if Google Translation did its work (visit the comment section to correct us if we're wrong).

While we can't be certain of the details surrounding this bizarre episode since the description on Youtube doesn’t make much sense after we translate it into English, through the dash-mounted camera we see someone who is driving a small green Toyota being chased by two men, one holding a baseball bat.

Two minutes into the video, we find that the man with the bat has jumped on the moving car and is trying to smash the window before it collides with the vehicle filming the scene... Watch it for yourself in the clip after the break.

The Dark Knight and Catwoman Show Off Their New Rides

Work on Christopher Nolan's next Batman film called "The Dark Knight Rises" is well underway with the movie crew currently filming in Pittsburgh.

To our delight, we now have some fresh footage of Batman's new toys that include the never before seen Batwing hovering or rather being carried around by a large truck, as well as his trusted Tumbler.

The Batwing is pretty impressive in these amateur videos and it will probably look even better after the special effects are added in.

Finally, we also get to see some scenes with the sensual Catwoman played by Anne Hathaway on her new blacked-out motorcycle. Enjoy the videos below.
